Seven Modernians were swimming with four swimmers making finals. The pick of the bunch was Nicola Pasquire who won both the 800m and the 400m freestyle. In the 800m Nicola led from the 350m mark with a number of swimmers hot on her heels but she toughed it out to beat all of her rivals and take the gold. In the 400m she led from the start and finished a body length ahead of her nearest rival. Nicola also competed in the other freestyle events finishing 7th in 100m and 4th in the 200m. This success is down to Nicola’s positive attitude and excellent work rate. She rarely misses a session and always gives her best. Well done!! Other swimmers who made finals were Nick Stalley in 200m breaststroke finishing a credible 6th after suffering from a cold. Joseph Munno finished a very impressive fourth in his first Regional's and Peter Webster made it to both the 100m and 200m backstroke finals finishing 7th and 5th respectively, also in his first Regional's. Bethany Dolan swam PB’s in nearly all of her events finishing 9th in 100m freestyle and 10th in the 400m freestyle, 12th in the 200m IM and 14th in the 200m freestyle. Oliver Maltby also swam PB’s in all of his events finishing 10th in the 100m backstroke, 13th in the 200m backstroke and 14th in the 100m freestyle. Paddy Keaveney was also swimming in his first Regionals and finished 12th in the 100m freestyle. Well done to all swimmers who competed and we look forward to more swimmers achieving qualifying times next year. Another Record For Sam Sam Briggs is pictured being presented by Bedfordshire ASA President, Joan Wheeler (who also happens to be the club’s Honorary President) with County Record Certificates for Junior and Senior 100 Free and Senior 50 Back.
Modernian Swimmer beats oldest record in the book Hayley Alcock of Modernian Swimming Club beat 31 year old Junior and Senior Bedfordshire County swimming records for the 100m breaststroke at the East Regional Youth Swimming Championships at Norwich on 1st May. This goes with the 30 year old Junior and Senior county records she broke for the short course 200m breaststroke at the recent Bedfordshire County Championships at Biggleswade in April; beating the previous record by 1.4 seconds. She has qualified for both events at the National Swimming Championships later this year.
