Affiliated to the Bedfordshire County ASA, and the ASA East Region Masters Swimming
Bedford Masters S.C Registered separately from the main Modernian Swimming Club (MSC), but with long standing close associations is the BEDFORD MASTERS S.C. This masters club is for older swimmers who swim with like minds for relaxation and fitness (at various levels) with some opportunity to train for and compete in Masters competitions. This is a group that swims for the pure enjoyment of keeping fit, loving swimming and improving with friends. For the Masters swimming Bedford Modem School pool is divided into four lanes for safe length swimming. This division reflects four standards and needs and members choose where they feel most confident and competent; there is no obligation to remain in any particular lane. The pool is 100’ x 35’ with a depth sloping from 0.9m. to 2.2m. Water temperature 81/82 F. Expert advice is on hand, but we have no wish to provide swimming or fitness lessons. Many members are qualified swimming teachers or experienced swimmers and are willing to share their interest and knowledge. We like to maintain a friendly informal spirit. For this and for safety reasons all are asked to respect other swimmers, following the recognised manners of “lane swimming”. Through the main Modernian Club the pool is hired by Masters S.C. on Wednesday and Friday evenings 8.45 to 9.45 and Sundays 8a.m. to 9a.m. Because this is a school pool all pool users are bound to some degree by school holidays and times vary slightly. Occasionally, again during holidays, there may be short one or two days closure depending on maintenance needs. Members opt to swim either two or all three sessions weekly and payment is monthly at the beginning of the month. In addition there is a small annual fee to cover insurance and affiliation fees to the A.S.A., East Region A.S.A. and Beds. County A.S.A. These are mandatory under A.S.A. Law. The best way to find out more is to come along at any of the above times, come on the pool side and speak to Keith Stapleton or Charlie Wilson (or any member). Don’t forget your swimming kit — there’s nothing like trying it for yourself If you are a Master swimmer new to Bedford it may be difficult to know where you would fit in best. Masters swimmers in the 19 to 30 age group who wish to compete at a higher level may prefer to train with the Modernians Senior Squad. Any students or other masters swimmers interested in finding out more should contact Jo Stalley on 07889 301309
