Ian Douglas - Senior Squad CoachIan Douglas - Head Coach

Since joining the Modernian Swimming Club as a young swimmer Ian has evolved into a top class coach.  He has gained some of the highest level coaching qualifications while continuing his career in teaching at a Bedfordshire school.

These coaching qualifications include: 

  • A.S.A Coaches Award
  • A.S.A Tutor Award.

Additional achievements include:

  • B.E.d (Hons) P.E & Science
  • Member of the Leadership Team at a school in Luton.

 

Claire Anderson - Junior Squad Coach

Claire Anderson – Junior Squad Coach

Claire has been with the Junior Squad since August 2006 and is also an ex-swimmer. Her qualifications include; Level 1 and 2 Teaching and she passed her Level Two Coaches exam in December 2008. Claire will shortly be starting her Level 3 qualification
She also holds her National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches NRASTC
 

 

Sue Coventry - Senior Squad Coach

Sue Coventry - Assistant Coach

Originally from Keynsham Swimming Club near Bath, Sue  qualified as an Advanced Swimming Teacher.  Sue assists coaching the Senior Squad and went on the Club Training Camp to Hungary in October 2007.  Sue is also a National Judge.

 


Stuart Kirk - Junior Squad CoachStuart Kirk - Assistant Coach

Stuart is a qualified Level 1 and 2 Teacher and holds his Level 2 Coaching qualification as well as his NPLQ (lifeguarding) qualification.  He is also a qualified lifeguard. 

Stuart assists with coaching on a adhoc basis.


Karen Kwok - Assistant Coach

Karen is a senior squad swimmer who competes at both County and Regional level. She coaches the newest members of the Junior Squad. Karen currently holds her Level One Teaching qualification and NPLQ (lifeguarding) qualification.


 

Kelly Johnson

Kelly Johnson - Assistant Coach

Kelly is a sixth former who assists Claire with coaching in the Junior Squad. She is a qualified L1 Teacher.



 

Becki Warner - Junior Squad Coach

Becki Warner - Assistant Coach

Becki is a senior squad swimmer who has reached National competitions on more than one occasion. She is a qualified Level 1 and Level 2 Teacher and also holds her NPLQ (lifeguarding) qualification.  Becki is currently at University but assists with Junior Squad during holidays.

 

James Carline - Junior Squad CoachJames Carline - Assistant Coach

James is an ex Senior Squad swimmer who reached the height of National competition on several occasions. He assists with coaching the Junior Squad during the holidays. His qualifications currently include Level 1 Teaching and Level 2 Certificate in Swimming Pool Supervision and Rescue and he has his NPLQ (lifeguarding) qualification.

 

Anders Christensen

Anders Christensen - Volunteer Parent - Junior Squad

Anders is a volunteer parent who assists Claire in the Junior Squad. He is an ex-international swimmer with a wealth of knowledge and experience that he is sharing with our Junior Squad.

Brian Brinkley - Head CoachBrian Brinkley

Brian has had a long and distinguished career in both competitive swimming and coaching.  During the time 1970-1977, as a member of Modernian Swimming Club, he achieved great success at the highest level.

His achievements as a competitive swimmer include:          

  • Qualification for the 1972 British Olympic Team
  • Team captain and bronze medallist at the 1976 Olympics
  • Qualification for the 1973 World Championships
  • Two silver and two bronze medals at the 1975 World Championships
  • Two silver medals at the 1974 European Championships
  • One gold, three silver and two bronze medals at the 1974 Commonwealth Games.

His achievements as a swimming coach include:

  • British National Team Coach from 1992-2002
  • Coaching positions at Stowe School, Warrington Warriors, City of Peterborough and Northampton.

Additional commitments include:

  • Member of the Amateur Swimming Association (A.S.A) Education Working Party
  • A.S.A Open Water representative on two occasions
  • I.S.T.C Representative for Swimming Education
  • Member of the Midland District Swimming Committee.
